John Shirley overwhelmed us with excerpts from his forthcoming The Other End, a progressive retort to the apocalyptic Left Behind series. Robin Burcell gripped us with the start of her police procedural Deadly Legacy. Joe Quirk thrilled us with the high-speed opening of The Ultimate Rush. Karen Bjorneby set the perfect opening mood with her award-winning short story "Hurricane Season."
